Having been a hopeless
romantic for my entire adult life it only seemed appropriate that I find a very
special new "part time" home at retirement. After 30 years of teaching creative
photography at a college in the U.S.A. my lovely Colombian wife and I decided
to spend most of our days in retirement on "her turf" of San Andres Island,
Western Caribbean Ocean, owned by Colombia (don't panic, it is a typical
Caribbean "don't worry, be happy" island safe and laid back, no mainland
Colombian problems). Here we brought out Tanzer 22 sloop for relaxing on the
blanket of crystal ocean, tempered with a dozen colors of blue and green. BUT,
we also needed a place to call "home" in the States. In cruised our new love, a
1948 40' Chris Craft double cabin which shall be berthed in Florida. After passing all the normal surveys, including an engine survey, we decided she was just the perfect project when we were visiting Stateside. She is mostly VINTAGE original or at least re-decorated to the wonderful era in which she was born. Hopefully at the end of next year she will be mostly resotred and you can see your face in her 6 or 7 coats of spar varnish (but that is still to come...for now she looks a bit
tattered outside). If you are down St. Petersburg, FL way, and want to trade a days work for a cocktail cruise, or deckside dinner, contact us. Here are a few snaps of the vessel, as of yet still without name....we bought her that way and are still thinking. Since we sent in the hard cash for purchase on Feb. 14, we are seriously considering naming her "Valentine's Day" or just "Valentine". But, then, she could end up "La Sirena Sexi Too"....which means "Also the Sexy Mermaid" (our sailboat is the original Sirena Sexi).
