These
are pictures of "Freedom", the 1987 Tayana 52 Murph crewed from Oyster Bay, LI,
NY to Bermuda, about 705 miles. It took four days, from Saturday, Nov 2 to Wednesday, Nov 6. Gil, the owner/skipper was captain, navigator, and weather forecaster. The three other crew stood 4 hour watches, 4 hours on, 8 hours off. Murph says It was a beautiful, wonderful sail! They beat a bad low pressure system by 18 hours, but boats behind them spent up to 8 hours in 45 knot winds and 20 foot seas! Murph said that he was fortunate to serve the 4 - 8 watch, so he got to enjoy every sunrise and sunset on the trip which he particularly enjoyed. Murph's salutation to the other members is: Sail Fast, Live Slow. Thanks Murph for sharing your pictures and story with us! |
