We have been boating on it for a year and still have more exploring to do! We currently own a 26 foot Wellcraft Martinique named DELFIN. We are searching the market to go back to our roots and start sailing again. We hope to have a Catalina 30 in the near future to continue our explorations and broaden our horizons! Friday, October 06, 2006 at 06:32:43 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- AVYC Member: Ken Hi, I'm an English guy with a Yankee boat, I own an American designed Stevenson Weekender - 'Sweet Mist' built 2002, one of only three in the UK. A beautiful boat, that looks pretty and actually goes places too. Love sailing and live in that great seafaring town of Croydon, Surrey, famed for the Croydon canal, all 100 yards of it, and only 50 miles from the sea! I have lots of great sailing areas available, as I trail the boat, so we can sail the Solent to the Isle of Wight one day and be making for the French coast on the next. There is some delightful sailing to be had in southern England. The tidal river Thames is just 10 min's away, and we can launch easily and free. We have a great many small boat owners here in the UK, it is a major participation sport and thankfully little regulated, so we can usually sail where we like, without loads of red tape, licences etc. My brother has been sailing around the world for the last six years on his 46 foot bruce Roberts! steel ketch, 'Nordic Warrior', and is currently in the Canary islands, preparing to leave for Cabo Verde, Senegal and Recife in Brasil. With me having now retired early, it's playtime, and I would be pleased to be in touch with other Weekender owners, as I know there are several fleets over there. No other explanation for my affinity to water. I'm landlocked in Colorado at the moment, but have been making do with puddles called lakes out here. Colorado does have some pristine waters in the higher country. I recently sold my sculling boat, and stupidly, prior to that, I sold my 17 foot Chaparral I/O Deep V. I'm a teacher, and finances took a turn for the worst, life goes on. I miss the ocean -- oh in the worst way. I tell my friends, "I'm gonna drive to the beach, two days straight, I can be there in 24 hours! And when I get there, I'm gonna just sit and stare out at the ocean. I don't want to do anything else. Just sit there and stare at the ocean." Someday soon, someday. Its good to see other water-holics have joined as a group. I am planning to share the AVYC jokes with my students as an icebreaker on the first day back at school. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- AVYC Member: Phil & Debbie Deb (my wife of 24 years) and I have been active boaters most of our lives. We have owned a number of boats, both sail and power. Our last was a custom built Devlin Surf Scoter 22 that we cruised out of East Greenwich RI. We sold "Tugwillow" last July in preparation for our move to Vancouver, Canada. We are presently boatless. It's hard, but we'll get through it! I did submit a request for any and all info about SiSu 22's. I hope it gets posted and we get some response. It will be appreciated. I did see a few comments, all positive I might add, but we would like to hear more about these boats. We are looking for a seaworthy economical and fun boat to be used for cruising, fishing, crabbing, prawning (big out here in BC), and the occasional overnite. So let your comments fly. If anyone is planning on selling a 22 NEXT year please keep us in mind. We are still settling in here and will not have the time to do to much boating this summer. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- AVYC Member: Lewis I have some quite varied experience with boats, from lobster fishing off the East Coast of Scotland to sailing out to the Outer Banks with my brother in his Caliber 40 which he keeps at New Berne in the Neuse River in North Carolina. Myself I am a dinghy sailor with an eleven foot Mirror Dinghy. Right at the moment I have the original 5mm ply version of the boat but I am looking at the GRP version which needs much less maintenance. I sailed for years on Linlithgow Loch but our Club folded due to a lack of adult members and I am about to join Cramond Boat Club if they will have me. Cramond is on the River Forth on Scotland's east coast, near Edinburgh. It is a tidal location with a five hour window either side of high water. In summer while in grade school, Two friends and I built a raft, stole some of mom's cookery and some supplies, took our rifles and moved aboard. We stowed our clothes in a bucket and didn't take them out for two weeks, We floated the Poteau with the current eating whatever we could shoot of get off the shore. In the evening before dark we poled the raft to shore, built a fire and scrounged for whatever we could get from some farmers garden. We always slept on the raft and pushed off next morning to another adventure. I found the site while looking for an Electric boat organization as my Picnic boat needs repair. I am currently between wives but not boats. My mate right now is an English Springer Spaniel named Sadie (AKC Lindy's Shady Lady Sadie) who is learning to "sail" with much less complaint than the first two mates! We "Sail" a McGreagor Venture 21 on a small state lake, Argyle, here in west central Illinois. I put "Sail" in quote because we soon dicovered that the lake was too small to sail and the oak trees like to grab the mast. My intro to our small group of boaters was when one of them heard the twang of my rigging one night when I thought I was alone on the water. We now "sail" with an 8hp Yamaha and a trolling motor. Particularly the Chester River, the Bohemia River, the Elk River, and the Sasafras River. We live at the mouth of the Sasafras and Elk Rivers. We and our boating friends keep our boats at the Chestertown Marina, in Chestertown, Maryland. During the summer months, Chestertown has a lot of Saturday activities, like arts and crafts shows, various vendors selling their wares, and on special occasions, they have other activities, like concerts in the park, Memorial Day celebrations, 4th of July activities, all against the back drop of the Sultana Schooner, and other Vintage Sailing ships which dock here for various celebrations. We enjoy the reenactment of the Boston Tea Party, and Down Rigging Weekend, where the Sultana, The Pride of Baltimore, the Virginia, the Kalmar Nyckle, and other masted sailing ships come for a weekend of fun and frolic. We all spend our time convoying down river to our favorite swim holes or just anchor out together for a fun day of fellowship. We own a 1988 Silverton Convertible yacht. It was a step up for us from a CrisCraft Catalina, which was considerably smaller. Now that we have a number of grand children, having a more spacious boat is a must. We often have pot luck dinners with our other boating friends which gives us all an opportunity for additional fellowship and just plain good times, especially when the margueritas start flowing and the Jimmy Buffet music starts playing. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- AVYC Member: Greg I was inspired to join AVYC by the story submitted by Don, the owner of the 22' Sisu lobsterboat "Seems To Be". I bought a derelict Sisu 22 myself, and am in the process of bringing her back to life ...something of an epic, I must say. I live in Juneau, Alaska. This is "Inside Passage" country, with thousands of miles of wilderness coastline, and countless fjords, bays and gunkholes to explore. Wildlife abounds...particularly sealife / humpback whales, orcas, Dall porpoise, sealions, seals, and a myriad of birds. Then there is the seafood...king and Dungeness crab, spot prawns, abundant wild salmon, halibut, rockfish, cod...you name it!
