Jim- I am the owner operator of an ASA school and boat club call "The Sailboat Club" in Jacksonville Florida. The reason I found your club was because of the closeness of our organizations names. My favorite body of water would be the Chesapeake Bay. In fact, I'm looking for someone in that area who would be interested in a vacation boat swap this year. -Capt Jack

: My Favorite body of water is Nantucket Sound just east of Cape Poge, Chappaquiddick, MA just off Edgartown, MA on Martha's Vineyard Island where I lived from 77-88. Now my favorite body of water is the Gulf of Mexico between Tampa and Siesta Key, FL where I live now. I love fishing, just cruising around, heading to picnic sites and water skiing. That's all on my boat, an 18.5' EDGEWATER Center Console with a Yamaha 130. Had 5 Whalers 13' - 22' before buying the Edgewater. I like it's look, and tha fact that it's lighter and less expensive than the Whaler Dauntless and Outrage 18s. Stumbled into BOATCLIX.com and from there to the AVYC. Glad to be aboard / Posted - Sunday, December 9, 2001

Avast & Greetings, from the great white north…yep, the ice now covers our reservoirs and lakes around Calgary Alberta. Mind you, winter was slow arriving and the ice didn't start forming until about 10 days ago! I'm a "blow-boater" around here and motor cruise on the B.C. coast whenever I get the opportunity. Despite being landlocked,

I'm an instructor with our local Power & Sail Squadron and always have full classes (+/- 25 for two 12 week courses/year) for the intro programs while other volunteers teach some of the more advanced piloting courses, VHF, mechanics, etc. Our squadron numbers about 300 members… one of the largest in Canada.

I also assist & teach our local group of Disabled Sailors. I'm heading out of here on December 11th for the Gulf of Mexico and some sailing/mucking around in boats between South Padre Island and Galveston, until after Xmas.

I enjoy the newsletter and checking out the activities of the members.
Cheers / Posted - Monday, December 3, 2001

We have a 1979 Bayliner Saratoga named "Dolce-Anna" I named her after my wife. We bought this boat 4 years ago she was mechanical sound but was in need of a face-lift. We gutted the interior and started from scratch. Added new electronics new upholstery camper top a glass radar arch to bring her up to date, and the list goes on. She is a great vessel and we enjoy her fully. She is moored on Lake Simcoe, Ontario Canada. Close to the "Trent" it's a beautiful boating spot. / Posted - Wednesday, November 21, 2001

I own a 16' lund with a 30 hp Mariner outboard. My favorite bodies of water are the Maumee River and Lake Erie. However, messing about on those two bodies of water are rare events, anymore. Now, the boat itself spends most of its life on the trailer in the back yard. However, in my youth, I really did spend a lot of time (and money) on those two waterways, but age and poor health have kept me pretty much land-locked the past few years. I keep the boat for decoration. / Posted - Saturday, November 17, 2001

Thanks Dan for joining. I hope your health improves enough to get that boat off the trailer and in the water...possibly this coming spring. I the mean time, enjoy the club! - Jim

Well, we took what was ostensibly our "last" ride on the boat today. The tide was out, but it was a wonderful ride. The wind was lite and the air warm, in the upper 60s almost 70. We drove out the inlet in Cape May heading into the ocean and found the waves there to be no more than 1-2 foot, but since we headed towards the Delaware it would be considered a following sea. Rufus went with us, preferring to "crew" from the relative safety and enclosure of the the cuddy cabin. He was such a good doggie today, jumping into the boat when Rene' told him to do so. Usually I have to pick him up and put him on board.

Well, as we rounded the point of Cape May Point it was the first time for me to see the Cape May Lighthouse and Cape May Point NJ from the water side. Thousands of times I have been in the lighthouse park and like that but never had I seen it from the out on the ocean. Just a wonderful experience. This country of ours may have had a recent blow to its security, but one would never know it while riding amongst several hundred boaters, most fishing, some like us, just having an afternoon on the ocean enjoying the sun and waves and relaxing.

We rounded off our short trip, of maybe 10 miles on the water by returning thru the canal! After a uneventful ride through Cape May harbor we returned to our dock at Hinches marine, and got docked rather quickly since I am now learning the intricasies of getting into this dock. It's all is in the use of ur hands, till u are aiming with the stern into the dock area, then just a slight flick of the gearshift into reverse, and wa la, we were docked. Well, I hope I can retain that wonderful ability for next summer, but by then we will have not only hydraullic steering but a new gear shifter and cables as well, damn thing needs muscles of steel to get it to shift into reverse!!

Enjoy ur winter, all!! / Posted Saturday November 17, 2001

Hi,Jim,
I've had a busy boating year. I moth balled The Lady BR after her winter servicing, and she's in the Boat House, high and dry, and the door locked. ( Sniff,sniff,sniff...with teary eyes.)

In the Spring she'll float again, and she'll be wearing her new flag...the USCG Blue and White Operational Facility Flag on the antenna mast ; Register Number 141909. Since tomorrow is my 55 th Birthday, I ordered a Garmin 76 handheld GPS unit for myself. The unit will be an asset to The Lady, and it will be helpful in an emergency. I continue to encourage my friends to join the All Volunteer Yacht Club! This year was mainly a cruising year on The Lady. Some fishing was done, but mostly just cruised the Susquehanna River from Sunbury to Halifax, Pa, and also to Raystown Lake. Well,I'll close for now...don't foul your anchor line! Thanks Maddog.
As a way of explanation to our other members, Maddog sent me a joke that was, shall we say, a little salty. It was a great joke but not in keeping with our family focus. Anyway, I explained that to Maddog hence his "Kiddy" comment. Regardless, visit his site, the man knows boats!
