I keep clicking on a calendar month but nothing happens! Why!!?
You need to look at the bottom of your screen in MSIE or at the top in Opera & Fire Fox for open browser windows that have been minimized. All of our calendar pages open in what we call a new “Print-Friendly Window.” During the course of printing or navigating the site the open calendar window often gets minimized. Then, the next time one click on a link, it does change but in the minimized window, you just don’t see it. The effect is you click and click but nothing happens.
Why is there all that typing at the top and bottom of the calendar?
That is created by your print setup. They are called the Header and the Footer and may be eliminated by simply clearing those fields in your printer setup. Check your printer documentation for fhe details.
The calendar won’t print on one page. Why? Chances are you are trying to print a portrait calendar in landscape mode. Other variables are your screen setup and
print setup etc. Usually as long as these are close to default settings you should have no problem. If one or more of the month pages print over to another page, here are a few things you can check:
Your Browser's text size. (Default in MSE is "Medium") But it may also help to make the text size smaller.
Drop the header and the footer. See your printer's documentation to do that.
Check your setup margins. Default should work but making the margins smaller on the top and bottom should help.
Whenever possible use the "Print Preview" option. Many browsers allow one to scale the page to fit your printer while in the preview screen. One can also usually select landscape or portrait.
If any of these measures do not work, please write us. Be sure and tell us which year and month is involved.
Is there a way I can make the calendar pages bigger?
Yes you can! The two easiest ways are:
1 - Increase the text size in you browser. How one does that varies by browser but in MS Internet Explorer it is under the "View" menu > "Text Size". The Default in MSIE is Medium. Taking it to large and Largest will increase the size of the calendar. Note: "Largest" setting may distort the Wednesday Column a little.Of course making the text size smaller will have the opposite affect.
2- Adjust the margins in your print setup. Again the MSIE default is .75 on all sides.
3- Some printer setups today allow for a "Fit Page" option and other page sizing options. You may want to look for those.
One final note: It's always a good idea to use "Print Preview" (If you have it available) while your adjusting the calendar. It saves on a lot of paper!
The answer is yes but not on the site. Our calendars, unlike many other calendars on the Internet, are built with **HTML code, which is compatible with MS Word and many other popular text programs. You can save the calendar to your hard drive from our site and open the file using your program or simply use copy and paste to the program of your choice, edit it then save it on your computer. (See the Detailed Steps below)
Doing it this way allows us to keep the cost of calendar development down. Otherwise we would be forced to charge a set price for the calendars and abandon our honor system. Jim will have none of that and is committed to keeping the honor system in place.
Detailed Steps
Both options have a different result. You may want to try both to find out which one you like best.
Option One - Save as file.
While you have the page you want to work with open:
Under File select Save As.
You may use the page title that shows up or rename it.
Select the folder in which you want to save the file and click Save.
(remember where you saved the file)
Open up Word and under file select open.
Go to the file you saved, select the file and click on open again.
Option Two - Copy and Paste While you have the page you want to work with open:
Is there a way to print the entire year without having to print each month?
We, at one time, had a page that allowed the user to print the entire year with one command. Some people had a problem. The reasons varied from printer to browser incompatibility. We have had, for some time, navigation arrows at the top of each calendar page that will move the user from month-to-month. Our studies have easily shown that it is just as fast to use the navigation arrows and simply repeat the print command for each month. That way there will be no possible issues with the individual page break commands and we don't get as many help emails.
I want to support the calendar. How do I send you money?
Oh, wonderful wonderful you! We try and make it obvious without getting in anyone’s way. So, it is not surprising some people miss it. You may support us through PayPal, Amazon.com or by US mail. The details are on our “ How it Works” Page. And, for those who did…Thanks for asking!
Did you know that April 1st says April Pool’s Day?
Thanks for bringing that to our attention we have corrected the date and it now reads “April’s Pool Day”. (It's only on a few calendars. It's a lighthearted tradition started several years ago. Every year we get feedback from those who are quick to correct us seemingly unaware that it's exactly the type of thing that is done on April 1st - April Fools Day!.)
Under the honor system, is my payment for each calendar I print or for a year?
The great thing about our honor system is that you get to set the price and frequency of payment based solely on the value you place on the calendar. Our role in the Honor System is to agree and appreciate your choice.
Update: After many requests for guidance in this area we have decided to make the honor payment guidelines official. Effective January 1st 2008 any payment is now, under the honor system, for one user one year. You still get to decide how much you value our service by picking the amount. So when you print you new calendar be sure that one of the first dates you mark on it is your payment date!
How often can I print a calendar once I pay, without having to pay again?
See the new policy above... A great feature of the No-Frills Calendar is that one can print a calendar, mark it up, and then print a clean one. Try returning a marked up calendar for a clean one at your favorite office supply store! Many supporters have said that they take that into consideration when they value the calendar.
Are there many people who use the calendar but who do not pay?
The short answer is yes but, we choose to be a very optimistic site! What we do know for sure is that there are some very good and honest people out there who do support us. The pessimistically inclined would argue that having an Honor System on a web site is counter cultural to the Internet. We disagree and prove it every month in which we cover our expenses. We will never be one of those rich sites but we are proud to say, we have covered our expenses (thanks to some very nice people) since 2003! Of course, we need your help to make sure that continues!
Beyond that, we don't spend a lot of time worrying about those who do not pay. That's between them and their conscience. As long as we get every honest person to act on their good intentions we will be online for a very long time!
"I will tell you what we will not have on my site; no logins to our web pages, passwords, pop-up ads and flashing banners. We will not collect personal information without it being optional. For those who choose to communicate with us we will never share that information with anyone outside the site."
"I want a site that celebrates the best of the Internet and offers the opportunity for people to participate in something not normally found there. I want everyone to leave my site feeling good about their experience!" ~
Thanks, very much, to those who support us!To everyone else, I truly wish you well!
Life is too short to do anything else.
